#5. Marco Boogers
Harry Redknapp has described Marco Boogers as his worst ever signing, which is hardly surprising given the way things turned out. The forward enjoyed a successful decade in the Dutch Leagues with a number of clubs before signing for West Ham in 1995 for £1 million. The writing was seemingly on the wall when it emerged that Redknapp had never actually seen the forward play. Boogers put his manager’s concerns at ease by getting sent off on his second appearance for a horrific tackle on Manchester United’s Gary Neville. Boogers was suspended and then suffered an injury which kept him out of action for some time. The story got weird when The Sun ran a fictional article claiming that Boogers had gone AWOL and was living in a Dutch caravan. It was untrue but Boogers made just a couple more appearances for the Hammers.
