10. Theo Walcott – £1.88 Million
It was the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the whole world was shocked to see that Sven-Goran Eriksson had just called upon the services of the 16 year old winger- Theo Walcott. His selection defied all logic of many pundits because selecting him came at a huge price of leaving either of Darren Bent, Andy Johnson or Dean Ashton out of the squad, and arguably all of them were having a better season than Walcott. He is now a regular for the English squad under Roy Hodgson’s leadership and was signed by Arsenal for a stunning amount of £1.88 million! But considering the fact that he has scored more than 80 goals in the 10 seasons he has played for the Gunners, perhaps signing him wasn’t a bad choice after all?
