#6. Stuart Attwell
In 2007, Stuart Attwell became the youngest person to referee a match in the English Football League in the tie between Hereford and Rotherham. Attwell continued to climb the ladder in the refereeing world – much to the surprise of any supporter watching his performances. Attwell has been at the centre of a number of controversies during his career but none were more famous than the ‘Ghost Goal’ of 2008 in a match between Reading and Watford. Reading took a corner with the score level at 0-0, they had one shot rebound wide and another off the crossbar and remarkably, Stuart Attwell awarded the goal. The ball came nowhere near the goalmouth yet Reading took the lead and drew the match 2-2.
