#9. Jose Manuel Barro Escandon
The referee of a football match should never grab the headlines but unfortunately for Jose Manuel Barro Escandon, headline writers were left with little choice after a match in 2009. Escandon refereed a Spanish regional first division match between Recreativo Linense and Saladillo de Algeciras when he sent off a Recreativo player in the second half. A scuffle broke out which evolved into a brawl between the two teams. Escandon abandoned the match and proceeded to dole out his own form of punishment. The referee marched into the two teams’ dressing rooms and preceded to hand red cards to 18 more players, making history in the process.
