Reports have come out in recent weeks stating that Manchester United are interesting in signing Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic, with manager Jose Mourinho flying to Zagreb to engage in talks with the Croatian midfielder. According to Italian news source Gazzetta dello Sport via Metro, United are also interested in signing Perisic’s Inter and Croatia teammate Marcelo Brozovic.
Brozovic’s agent confirmed that talks were underway with a Premier League club although he declined to reveal that club’s identity. Reports from Italy have claimed it was United and it would not be the first Serie A star the Red Devils have been connected to. Along with Perisic and Brozovic, United have also been linked to Napoli striker Dries Mertens, Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Prior to the reported interest from United, Inter had a price tag of around £26 million for Brozovic but following the rumors, Inter is said to have re-evaluated their figures, increasing his price tag to £43 million. Inter is unlikely to let Brozovic go easily as the midfielder is still only 24 and with his contract running until 2021, Inter is in position to command a large transfer fee for him.
Mourinho is familiar with operation as Inter as he managed the side to two Serie A titles and a historic treble in the 2009-10 season. His first season at Old Trafford has been slightly underwhelming as despite the big-money acquisitions of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, United have spent most of the season in sixth place in the Premier League although they have already won the EFL Cup and have reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League as one of the strongest sides remaining.
