#8. David Luiz: £50 million
He may be the source of ire for many footballing fans but when on song, David Luiz is a defender who oozes class all around. The Brazilian can pass the ball and score screamers even though his defensive issues at times question his undoubted ability. Nonetheless, Paris Saint-Germain made the former Benfica man the most expensive central defender in the world when they paid Chelsea 50 million pounds for his services back in the summer of 2014. However, the player’s time in France was not worth remembering considering that Luiz returned to his club this summer once Antonio Conte was appointed the Blues’ new manager.
