5. VINCENZO IAQUINTA
Iaquinta had a successful 05-06 season with Udinese which led him to be selected for the Italian squad that won the 2006 World Cup. He was considered as a super-sub after scoring a goal in the group stage opening match against Ghana. However, that was it! He was an effective sub, but that’s what he remained throughout the major portion of the campaign- a sub. It is a matter of curiosity and debate among many Italian football fans as to why his peak spell was so short lived? And so, Iaquinta will always be among the forgotten world cup heroes, and comes at the 6th spot in our countdown.
