Bernard was a “cool’ player to say in least. He had both pace and power in his game and won his first cap for France in 1998 against Spain in a friendly international match. However, he might have been impressive for the first few matches, but the winger would only appear 3 times in the world cup. He was also an ex-Liverpool player. In total, he won 8 caps for his country, but amazingly, he never scored. His final appearance in the World Cup would be against Paraguay in the Round of 16 of 1998 FIFA World Cup. Following the world cup, he was made the Chevalier (Knight) of the Légion d’honneur in 1998.
