1. CARLOS MARCHENA
Perhaps one of the best central defender for Spain during Euro 2008 was Marchena. However, if you’re a central defender and you’re getting slow, then you might just lose your place in the starting XI. By the time it was 2010 and the World Cup was on its way, Marchena was found to be mostly benched. He played only for a single minute against Portugal and Germany and for 6 minutes against Paraguay. While the present generation will always remember Puyol and Pique as the rock at the back for Spain, Marchena has nothing for him, other than of course, the most prestigious cup in football- The world cup.
