The Mike Ashley Presents: The Sports Direct Arena in Association with SportsDirect.com Stadium as it will probably soon be known as is one of the oldest football stadiums on the planet with a history dating back to the 1880s. The first match played on the side was in 1880 but St. James’ Park wasn’t actually constructed until 1892. The ground looked very different back then and has naturally gone through massive refurbishment down the years. It is now one of the largest, and indeed most recognisable stadiums in the world of football. It is the fourth largest football stadium in England with a capacity of over 52,000.
