9. MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM – $450 MILLION
Yet another expensive stadium in South Africa (and we have a feeling that there are many more yet to come in this list) is the Moses Mabhida Stadium which cost nearly $450 million tax payer’s money and is the only stadium to be named after a former Secretary General of the South African Communist Party- Moses Mabhida. It has an original capacity of around 54,000 but was increased temporarily to 62,700 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and it also has the ability to accommodate till 80,000 people as well during events such as the Olympic Games. It comes in the 9th spot in our countdown.
