#10. Marouane Fellaini – Manchester United
This isn’t to say that Manchester United’s signing of Marouane Fellaini was dumb, just the manner in which it was carried out. The Belgian signed for Everton way back in 2008 and impressed during his five years at Goodison Park. Fellaini was a powerful, goalscoring attacking midfielder who helped Everton to a series of impressive finishes under David Moyes. After Moyes departed for Manchester United, Fellaini was constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford and the player’s £22 million release clause was touted. It was well known that this release clause expired in mid-August so when the date past it was assumed that United would go elsewhere. They didn’t, and on Deadline Day United completed the transfer of Fellaini for a price of nearly £5 million more than his old release clause just because they waited two weeks.
