#3. Stanley Matthews
Sir Stanley Matthews is one of few English players to be really classed as a legendary figure within the game. Matthews was a pre-cursor for the modern footballer as he emphasised fitness and dietary work in order to help himself on the pitch. The winger was also blessed with incredible ability on the ball which helped create one of the most legendary players to play the game in England. Despite that, Matthews spent his career at Blackpool and Stoke City. Matthews won the 1956 Ballon d’Or but the only major honour he won with his club sides was the 1953 FA Cup with Blackpool.
