According to the British newspaper Metro, Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to leave Borussia Dortmund to join the Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande for a staggering fee of £63.5m.
He would become the latest high-profile player to join the wealthy league, with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Hulk, and Oscar making the move to China earlier for high transfer fees.
Aubameyang has been constantly linked with an exit from Dortmund since last season, with rumors claiming he is no longer happy with life in Germany.
There were reports stating he’s an ideal candidate at Real Madrid to replace the underperforming Karim Benzema, while AC Milan and few Premier League clubs have shown interest.
The striker was dropped from Dortmund back in November for “disciplinary reasons”, while he was also suspended last season for taking an unsanctioned trip to Italy.
The club’s sporting director Michael Zorc admitted last month that Aubameyang has a problem with being repeatedly late to team trainings, confirming the speculations that things aren’t going well between both parties.
“We have only one problem with him — that is punctuality. We have to be very clear about that,” Zorc said. “This crept in last year, that he often arrived too late.”
The 28-year-old has currently scored 13 goals in 15 league games for Dortmund, and is understood to be in the final stage of negotiating personal terms with Guangzhou, who see him as an ideal candidate to replace the departing striker Jackson Martinez.
