After signing as Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho went on a spending spree last summer, bringing in £149 million worth of stars such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and £89.3 million record signing Paul Pogba. Despite the overhauled attack, United has continued to struggle this season, spending most of the campaign entrenched in sixth place and struggling for goals despite Ibrahimovic’s 28 in all competitions.
According to the Express, Mourinho has revealed his wish list for this summer. The list consists of five players with a combined value of £250 million as United continues to spend big in an attempt to bring the club back to its former glory. On the offensive side, it is reported that Mourinho wants to sign strikers Romelu Lukaku and Antoine Griezmann, who come at a projected value of £65 million and £86 million respectively. With Wayne Rooney set to depart and Ibrahimovic’s future at the club uncertain, spots have opened up for the striker duo.
Along with adding offense, Mourinho is also looking at midfield and defensive reinforcements, specifically targeting the young Monaco trio of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Djibril Sidibe and Benjamin Mendy. The three Frenchmen are said to cost around £72 million.
Ibrahimovic has made comments in support of Mourinho, stating that while United is a large club in terms of business, that the club has not done enough to bring in top stars. Despite these comments, the Swedish striker has been linked to a move to MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy next season.
