Manchester United has been connected with Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann for the last couple of months, with many believing that the deal is a near-certainty. Along with the constant Griezmann talk, rumors regarding goalkeeper David De Gea making the move to Real Madrid have been circulating ever since the first attempt at a deal failed back in 2015. As a result, United fans can expect both of these to happen in the near future.
According to the Daily Star, United are looking to sign the £85 million rated Grizemann and in the event De Gea leaves, the Red Devils will also be interested in signing Atletico’s £40 million rated goalkeeper Jan Oblak as his replacement. Dubbed the best goalkeeper in the world by Griezmann, it has been reported that United manager Jose Mourinho has ordered regular scouting checks on the goalkeeper.
Signed from Benfica in 2014, Oblak has developed into one of the top goalkeepers in La Liga, winning the Zamora trophy last season after only conceding 18 goals in 38 matches and tying the league record. De Gea’s future at United has been in doubt following a row the Spaniard reportedly had with Mourinho after the manager said he was “sleeping” in United’s 3-0 win over Sunderland. He sat out United’s next two matches, returning to the side in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Chelsea. Real are expected to try and sign De Gea for £65 million, doubling the current record of £32.6 million that Juventus signed Gianluigi Buffon for.
Griezmann is expected to take the place of club captain Wayne Rooney as he is almost certain to leave United in the summer. Mourinho is also looking at Brazilian winger Willian as another potential signing. An integral part in Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea, Willian has seen his playing time diminish as manager Antonio Conte prefers Pedro in the right-wing spot.
