According to the (Liverpool Echo), Attack has been the name of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this season. The pressing team has accumulated 64 goals this season, more than any other side in the Premier League, and currently stand in third place. Multiple players on the team have scored more than five goals, but the most essential scorers are the front three: Coutinho, Firmino, and Mane. Unfortunately, the latter may not be a part of the end of Liverpool’s season.
Sadio Mane has been brilliant in the Merseyside derbys, scoring a late winner in their first meeting this season, and the opening goal in the second meeting. However, the Senegalese winger suffered a rough injury in the last rivalry match versus Everton.
Mane collided with Leighton Baines, who was playing midfield for Everton, during the second half of the match, a collision which damaged his knee. His knee is apparently so swollen they have to wait for it to recover more before making an accurate assessment. The chances of Mane missing the last 8 games are, in the words of Klopp, “possible”.
This comes at a clutch time in the season where Liverpool need to take as many points as possible to stay in the top 4, with Man City breathing down their necks, as well as Man United and Arsenal with two games in hand on the Reds and not far behind. Henderson and Lallana are also missing, meaning Liverpool’s support system is also hindered. One can only wish these men a speedy recovery.
