Source According to latest reports, Liverpool are interested in signing Roque Mesa from Las Palmas. He will be a direct replacement for Emre Can, who has yet to sign a new deal at Anfield, and is likely to be heading for the exit this summer.
Mesa is currently enjoying a great season in Canary Islands, as he occupies the undisputed starting position at the club. He has made 24 appearances in La Liga so far and contributed with a goal, two assists, and up to 91% pass success percentage. The 27-year-old’s impressive showings have not gone unnoticed as many other clubs, besides Liverpool, are also monitoring him including the likes of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton.
The defensive midfielder has also been in the radar of Julen Lopetegui, as the Spanish national team boss is keen to call up Mesa for the first time ever to the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
With Can unwilling to stay at Merseyside, Mesa could be the perfect replacement in the middle of the park for Jurgen Klopp. The Spaniard is technically sound, willing to cover empty spaces in the midfield, and can pick out a pass to unlock tight defenses. He is the ideal player not only for the German coach, but for the club’s American owners as well due to his price tag. Although Mesa has a £26 million release clause in his current contract, Las Palmas will be willing to sell for as cheap as just £8.5 million.
