1. Asamoah Gyan – $320,000
The career of Asamoah Gyan is a mystery to many. The striker made his name (kind of) in Italy, scoring 26 times in 92 games as a youngster for three different clubs. This, via a 48 game stint in France, saw him signed by Sunderland of the English Premier League where it looked initially like he would shine. Gyan though found the going to be tough on Wearside and after scoring 10 times in 34 games he suddenly, and without notice, disappeared to go and ply his trade in the UAE. At Al Ain, Gyan had a fearsome strike rate with an astonishing 90 goals in 74 matches. At the end of his contract Gyan again jumped for the money, signing a deal with Shanghai SIPG of the Chinese Super League worth over $320,000 per week. Questions will always be asked about Gyan’s ability to play at the top level given his career path, but with his bank account outmatching the GDP of some small nations the Ghanaian is unlikely to care.
