Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has been in the news over the past week regarding his future at the club. After comments by president Florentino Perez and manager Zinedine Zidane suggested that his injury history and inconsistent form would lead to his being dropped from the starting XI, Bale and his agent began talks with other major European sides. Bayern Munich, Paris-Saint Germain, Chelsea, and most notably Manchester United are some of the sides linked with a Bale move. Now, the Welshman has reportedly told the club the only way he will stay is if he is guaranteed a first team place.
According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon via the Express, Bale has issued a transfer ultimatum to the club, saying that either Isco leaves or he will. The Spanish midfielder along with compatriots Marco Asencio and Lucas Vazquez have impressed while Bale has been out with injuries and as a result, Real’s record signing has been deemed surplus to requirements by Zidane.
United has shown heavy interest in signing Bale, with one report claiming that his agent has already met with manager Jose Mourinho. Another report said that Bale had reached a verbal agreement with United as long as the Red Devils qualified for the Champions League. At the moment, United are in the Europa League finals and favorites to win against Dutch side Ajax, a victory that would mean automatic qualification for the Champions League.
“Bale’s agent does not like everything that has happened and he has started to negotiate in England,” journalist Pipi Estrada told Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones.”In fact he has said it to Jose Ángel Sanchez [Real Madrid chief] to tell him that he will consider offers. ”They have talked to Mourinho and they have received a ‘yes’, that is why they are going to present the offer to Real Madrid.”
