Source According to the Spanish radio station Onda Cero via AS, Barcelona are ready to beat out Real Madrid to bring in Atletico Madrid’s exciting youngster Theo Hernandez in the summer. The Catalans are desperate for the 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Deportivo Alaves, and will even offer Jordi Alba in a swap deal.
Theo has been making noises after getting valuable minutes at Alaves this season. The left-back has made 31 total appearances for the Basque club so far and gained interest of both Spanish giants. Although Atletico want to stop their crown jewel from being snatched away by the rivals, Diego Simeone is unwilling to give Theo a starting spot over the Brazilian international Filipe Luis — leaving the youngster with no option but to head for the exit door.
Atletico currently have set the release clause at €24 million, which Real are willing to meet. However, according to the Onda Cero journalist José Ramón de la Morena, Los Rojiblancos would prefer to sell their academy product to Barcelona than to their city rivals. Plus, getting Alba on loan as a part of the deal makes the offer even more attractive for the club.
The France under-20 international has also been linked with Bayern Munich and Olympique Marseille, with both clubs keeping a close eye on his development. With that being said, Simeone has revealed he spoke with Theo recently, and is hopeful that the player will remain at the club along with his older brother Lucas.
