According to the (Manchester Evening News), Tiemoue Bakayoko is ready to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on one condition: they must qualify for Champions League next season. Mourinho’s squad is currently sitting in fifth position on the Premier League table, one place outside of Champions League qualification. They are 4 points back from fourth, with two games in hand on Liverpool, the team in that position. Should they catch fourth by the end of the season or better, they will have Bakayoko. However there is another way they could get the midfielder without finishing in the top 4.
Winning the Europa League, which United are the favorites to do so, would also grant them a Champions League spot despite how they finish in the Premier League. This would also be the first time Manchester United have won the Europa League, although they have won the Champions League 3 times in their history.
However reaching Champions League will not dissuade attraction to Bakayoko from other clubs. Chelsea have reportedly made a £35 million offer already, which is very attractive given their dominance in the Premier League this year. Their reentrance to European competition could well be a fiery one.
But there is one more aspect to consider. Anthony Martial is very close to Bakayoko due to their time together playing internationally for France as well as in Ligue 1. The prospect of playing with a friendly face could attract Bakayoko to United over Chelsea if the Red Devils grab a Champions League spot.
