According to the (Sky Sports), Atletico Madrid are looking to sign a new striker should the TAS lift their transfer ban, which the club is appealing. Especially with the rampant rumors that Griezmann is leaving for Manchester United in the next transfer window, Atletico will need a versatile striker to replace the Frenchman. The Madrid side are interested in purchasing in-form striker Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon from French Ligue 1.
Lacazette has already racked up 22 goals in his domestic league, chasing Edison Cavani for the Golden Boot in France. Lacazette’s estimated worth is around €35 million, a price tag that Atletico are capable of paying, especially should United pay big bucks for Griezmann, which they undoubtably will should the deal go through.
Spanish football would be a new test for Lacazette should he go there, but the 25 year old is more than likely to be eager for the chance to prove his worth in a different country. Lyon are currently 13 points back from Nice with a game in hand, so Champions League is looking unlikely unless they manage to take the Europa League, a victory most people believe will belong to Manchester United by the end of the season.
Should Lacazette go to Madrid, Champions League is a much more likely competition for him to play in. It will all depend on Lyon’s performance in Europa League, and since Lacazette’s contract is until 2019, Lyon may want to keep him on board for another season.
